How to Improve Your Bowling Spare Game: Mastering the Art of Converting Spares
Share
A strong spare game is essential for consistent high scores in bowling. Converting spares is often the difference between a good game and a great one. Here's how to improve your spare shooting skills.
1. Learn the Basic Spare Techniques
- Straight ball: For most spares, you should aim for a straight shot rather than a hook. This reduces the chances of missing the target.
- Adjust your target: For corner spares, adjust your target to the opposite side of the pin. For example, when trying to convert the 7-pin, aim for the left side of the pin.
2. Spare Shooting for Different Pin Configurations
- Single Pin Spares: These are the easiest but still require precision. Aim for the center of the pin and use a controlled, straight shot.
- Split Conversion: For splits, focus on hitting one of the split pins at the right angle to send it into the remaining pin.
3. Practice Regularly
- Practice specific spare drills to get comfortable with the most common spare situations, such as the 7-10 split or 10-pin spare.
